Default output shaft bearing

Finally after 6 months I'm able to start work on fixing my 86/87 flying condom. The bearing just behind the drive sprocket is noisy & I would like to replace it. The only problem is that the assembly is different to the book. (note I have both aftermarket & genuine books) The book shows a circlip behind the 2nd gear pinion. Non existant on mine. In fact the shaftis a larger diameter than the centre of the pinion. It appears that there is a collar between the sprocket & the bearing. Do I have to press this this collar off to remove the bearing from that side? Hopefully simple.

I seem to have answered my own question. Aparently it's not replacable. The shaft & bearing come as one piece @ $380 Australian if they can find one as it's listed as unavailable.
Next question. Has anyone ever replaced the bearing with a generic bearing?

Does the bearing have any markings on it?

As it turns out not only is the part obsolete but the bearing is a special. It does not match any standard sized bearing that the bearing supliers have listed. As far as markings....no. That would be too easy & Honda don't like to make things too easy for us. I'll just have to look for a good 2nd hand shaft or hope that the bike shop is able to locate one hidden in the warehouse, unless someone has any other ideas that may help?

What about getting the race re-built and ***** changed for new ones?

People do that all the time with car C.V Joints.

Failing that try honda dealers overseas.

If you can find a Honda dealer / mechanic willing to work with you he / she may be able to find a bearing in the Honda line up that fits. When my alternator bearing died the book gave one option - a new armature with bearing attached. The mechanic measured what was left of my bearing, went to his books, and found one for a Rubicon starter that fit. It's a long, long shot, but you might luck out.

The large bearing that you are talking about is available by handa as I have just renewed my own, but when replacing this you will need to do the other end as well as a matching set. The larger one was £15 and the needle bearing was £20 approx. The curclip that you mention was on placed on F K models onwards. If you are having problems getting your parts then pm me and I will get them here for you. These bearing were still being used right up to the last model in 1996, so there really should'nt be any issue from honda, apart from the fact that they are going to have to do some work to find you some. Good luck
