Where do you find the room to shove a screwdriver in and turn? The freakin' headers are in the way. I'll try the steel wrench route, then the screwdriver stab.

Don't know about Mass., but around here it hit 60 degrees F. yesterday, although it rained like hell.

 

It was around 40 here on the Cape. I would have taken the bike out, but I'm in the middle of doing the wheel bearings (so ****ing easy to do, it's ridiculous)

 

Crush that motha flat at the end with a large vice Grip then use a pipe wrench to
turn the extended flat vice grip and filter...........show no ****en mercy !.....like an
empty beer can

I never had to use anything else other than the rubber strap tool to get it out. I think that the corrosion around it made a seal and got it stuck to the crankcase.
Looks like there's a lot of salt water where you live? never seen that kind of corrosion on a 1000F before. Hope you get the dang thing out!

 

UP here Daniel they spread truck loads of salt and tankers of calcium chloride
on the roads in Winter time .......you can even see the oxidization on the engine
casing........not uncommon around these parts.

Haven't got it off yet. But a friend gave me another tool to try. I haven't had much time in the garage lately. My wife and two daughter 3 and 6 take up much of my off time.
