I've read somewhere to upgrade to a sc33 radiator and to just delete the cooler, since:
- in summer, the average ambient temp is about 65-70F (21C) and peaks a few days a year at about 85F (30C)
- I'm not running a turbo, nos, neither am I racing it
- the only performance upgrades to the engine are a set of free-flow mufflers, a set of pod filters and a re-jet.
Now, the non oil cooler equipped CB1000F has the same engine casting (to the eye), so I could just take a set of block off plates to close the connections on my sc24 engine.

To the eye but what's inside? My guess is that there are different oil passages. It would seam to me that the cooler is in line and blocking it off would cause no oil flow, much like blocking off the radiator.
Sounds plausible, though I do know quite a bit about the engines Honda used in the up to '00 Civics and alike, I built a 300+ hp engine myself, if that know-how applies to the motorcycle engines, the castings are 100% the same.
But to be sure, I could just connect both ports with a high pressure rubber hose to ensure flow.
So that again leaves me with the question; can the relatively stock engine get enough cooling without fairings and in a moderate climate?
I know I'm bumping an old thread, but I had some ideas. Do naked Hondas have oil coolers such as the cbr1000f. Is it possible that it is a redundancy that was added only because it is easy to do cosmetically. Or perhaps if oil coolers aren't put on the nakeds, it's because it's cosmetically difficult. I also think that if you aren't racing it or always near the red line, it might not be necessary.

Doesn't matter, I still have the bike, and it's still stored in boxes; no time or means to restore the sweet thing, became a dad, but work is slow and my girlfriend takes care of our son.
So, it has been a while now, haven't ridden it last year and I don't think it'll be this year either.
But, time enough to think about modifications and think them through
Naked version of the bike is the CB1000 if I remember correctly, and it does not have an oil cooler; though, it also has a lower power output (under a 100 horsies vs 130-ish) and I have some performance enhancing parts added (like a set of mufflers and a set of K&N cone filters).
When riding, the engine will manage 99% of the time?
It's just that 1% when you need it that you'll regret leaving it out is what I'm afraid of.
I really wish there was some good conclusion to all of this....i have an oil cooler in front of my radiator on my 89 600 hurricane. And im trying to find a way to shorten the lines. I never thought about deleting it completely or replacing it with something sleeker. You can see how ugly they r up there
Tbh I never solved it. I’ve even not touched it since pulling it apart in 2011, only recently picked it up from storage to start again (put it back together for welding new radiator+exhaust collector+muffler brackets to the frame). I was still thinking about relocating the cooler, forgot about the water cooled oil cooler, thanks for that 😄
