Default not charging

honda cbr1000fm 1991
I set the multimeter to ohms. the book says set to 1. the meter starts at 200. The reading I get from the meter is 1.0 from all three yellow wires.. the book says 0.4 to 0.6. From the field coil wires one black one white with the meter to set to 200 I have a reading of 3.6 book says 2.0-2.6.
there is no continuity from all wires to earth.
when I have the meter set to volts, i have 0 reading from the field coil wires when earthed. no voltage when engine is switched on
am i doing something wrong or is this alternator dead.
cheers
brian

Are you following [section 14-page 8] of the service manual?
The manual says Ω form Yellow to Yellow.
It also says Black to White should be 1-30 kΩ.
Maybe start from [page 1-section14] and look at drawing on page 14-2 to get a better understanding on how the wiring is setup before running test.
