Default Normandy

Me and my son are catching the ferry to Normandy 8.00am on Friday, me on the CBR and him on the R1.
Just for the long weekend.
Anyone know of 'must see' sights?
Full report and photos will be posted on our return.
The only down side will be the ride through the night to reach portsmouth for early morning. 250 miles and it will probably rain all the way.

Have a look at Google earth for France, and zoom in - points of interest will appear as purple dots when you zoom down, with names and pics.
Have a good one, and keep the rubber side down.

I were in Normandy in 2006 and had a great trip.

Nice places to visit is the following:
Port Winston at Arromanches (north-east of Bayeux)
It's the largest port build during WWII, and was one of Winston Churchill's great inventions. Great Museum!

Longues-sur-mer costal batteri
A well preserved costal battery and a nice command bunker used in the film "the longest day"

Point-du-hoc is also one of the great sites
The very very steep clif that the American Rangers had to climb to attack a German artillery position
Also included in the film "the longest day"
There is a nice little Ranger museum in Grandcamp-Maisy

"The Caen memorial" museum
A very big museum about the siege of Caen, and D-Day in general
It takes a couple of houres to see

Here is a map over Normandy where some of the places can be located

The american semetery is a special place, but if you want to see a semetary that really takes your breath away, go and see the american semetery in Verdun. It's twice the size. 16.000 soldiers burried in the same place.

Here is my wright up on my trip when I got home

Hope this helps
