Default Newbie asking questions already...

I'm new to the site but I read throughout the forum that most of the older hurricanes had a narrower rim which a 170 series tire was stock. Mine is an '88 the manufacturing date on the frame tag says it was made 7/87. I just bought the bike on 9/11/06. It's going to need new tires by next season. My question is.... Are the rims on the '87 models the skinniest? I looked at the size on the tire and they're metzler 140 series width. Surely that isn't the right tire.? I just want to make sure if I order a 170 it won't hurt my handling. It can't really get worse I think it handles like poop right now. I blame it on the tires not being the right ones. But if anyone has any info.....let me know.

The 88’ would be the skinny tire 140 I belive, the 92+(?) models have wides which are 170 standard

I have an '87 and it had 3 1/2" rim with a 140 tyre on it, swapped to a '93 rim with a 5 1/2 rim and 180 tyre...
