RE: too quiet
Got any little critters that might have crawled up in there. A funny story... One time I had an 1983 GS1150ES. and it had a 4:1 system Vance and Hines, as I recall. Anyways, I installed it on a saturday afternoon. Ran it one cycle, then checked the jets and corrected accordingly. Then, I went out to start it the next day and I had a similar issue only it felt like it was restricted and lacked sound. In fact it ran for like 10 seconds, felt weird, so I shut it off. Got a flashlight and looked down in their and saw something yellowish tan. As I was getting ready to disassemble it to check, my 6 year old daughter came out and asked me where the ferret was. Hahahahaaa. Her pet ferret escaped from its cage, got out into the garage, and crawled up in the pipe as it was warm. It was facing the end of the pipe. It suffered a little carbon monoxide and some fringed up tail hairs, but it was ok. Hehheheeee.

RE: too quiet
You can do it yourself, I brought some fibreglass packing and started to remove the pipe, then decide it would take me too long to do and I would need to buy some more tools, so I took it to the shop.
Basically, you disassemble the pipe, repack the core with new fibreglass packing and put everything back together, but I not talking from experience.
