Must be a US thing. the vast majority of tracks that are close are 1/8. They're all over the southeast US.

Now don't call BS, I'll post a video of a pass when the season starts. I launch at around 8-9 grand, usually off the clutch about 10 feet out. I sometimes take the can off, it spooks other riders to hear that much RPM on the line from a stock length bike.

Never had any problems with this bike. It's not my first choice as a drag racer, heavy, and low on HP, but it seems to be bulletproof. Never put a clutch in it, but I'm going to over the winter just in case.

1/8 is also used as an alternative to 1/4 here in Scandinavia. There are many roads where they setup legal dragraces for both bikes and cars, thoseroads are often too short for 1/4 then 1/8 is perfect.

It just makes me all warm and tingly to know that in the right hands (i.e., not mine) my old girl could be doing respectable times at the drag strip. Cool.

Oh, I have an '87, stock with Vance & Hines pipes.

Hey Blue,
I think insurance rates and high real estate prices are killing the 1/4 mile tracks here. I can remember a time when blocking off a road to hold races happened here. That's a thing of the past.

Hey Griffin,

What I like about these bikes is that you hardly ever see one at the dragstrip....ever.... and nobody expects it to be quite as fast as it is.

Hey FarAway...
Maybe the track ownerscharge so much that it's impossible for a smaller bike/car association to rent a track....so the cheaper alternative would be a industrial estate where you can find a "track" suitable for a 1/8 race....and there are a lot of closed ind.estates.

Hey Vulcan,

If you're doing all those mods to your motor, we've got to meet up and make a pass, I'd like to see how my fogger system stacks up against a built motor before I tear into it.

Say Memphis or Holly Springs. Holly Springs, Ms will be running a bike program next year. I'm going to try to run all the races. Hopefully.

I'm a little over an hour from Memphis, Live in Corinth, Ms.

Blue,

The tracks do charge quite a bit to rent one, but there are so many test and tune days that there's no need to rent the track unless you are putting on a big race.

Thankfully dragstrips are still fairly plentiful in the Southeastern U.S.
