Hey fellas, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1987 1000F which has not had a part fail on me yet which is why I have not been here before. Well my fuel pump quit and I was wondering if just about any fuel pump with a similar configuration will work. Carbureted engines don't need a lot of fuel pressure, so just about any fuel pump from another carbureted bike with a positive and a negative wire should work - or am I off here??

The fuel pump just tick slow only when the engine is running i don't know at full noise holding on to the bars.

Welcome to the forum, don't worry, you don't need the pump. I still have no pump on my Hurricane, same year as yours.

 

I may try to just bypass the pump then... Can you run the tank to the bottom or do you have to worry about filling up half way through?

No worry. It sound stupid, but I filled up the tank once and tried to drain all gas from the petcock. I could drain out 5 gallon +. It means Hurricane can eat up whole tank of gas without pump. I don't know why HODNDA wanted to equip this expensive electric fuel pump to 87-88 model. From 89 model year, no fuel pump is equippedm if I am not wrong.....I don't get it....
FYI, my bike goes to reserve on around 120 to 130 miles, depending on how I drive. So, roughly 180 - 190 miles for full of tank.

P.S. One thing, be careful that don't pinch the turn back part of fuel hose. Petcock's outlet face towards your bike's back, so you need to play with existed fuel hose. Cut out good part of U shaped part and you'd better use a stronger hose clamp on the petcock. Originally equipped hose clamp is not strong enough to hold the hose. Good luck!!

That sounds kind of low. I can get 180 miles out of mine with out hitting reserve. I ride it to work everyday
30 miles one way. most of it is freeway riding. The last time I had to switch to reserve it was at 179.4. I have never tried to see how much further I could get by running out the reserve. I am guessing I can get another 25 to 30 miles. Hopefully I will never have to find out.

those of you riding with no pumps, do you see any issues with this if your up on one wheel?

how is the general riding without a pump? what if i got a general electric pump from an auto parts store? just dont feel right going out without a pump. but if it works for yall then im in.
