Hi to everyone,
I have a Honda cbr1000f-j, I`ve had it for 4 years now and rebuilt most it, a few months ago the fuel pump shorted out and failed, I`ve replaced the pump, but since then had a recurring problem that after opening her up, it coughs and splutters and seems to miss-fire. I`ve replaced the carbs, no difference, I`ve replaced the cdi unit, no difference, checked the loom for breaks, replaced plugs leads and coils, no difference, now it pulls fine up to 5000 rpm then coughs and splutters.
any suggestions, I`m at my witts end.
Thanks in advance for any info
Peter

Float levels in the carbs check them
Gravity feed the fuel to the carbs from the other side
and chuck the pump check the mesh petcock filter inside
the tank , check the float valve seat filters when setting the
float levels.
All of these pare remedies to fuel starvation I think you have
]The final check being make sure the gas tank is venting and
a vacuum is not being created as fuel is being used

still running rough
Hi Wheelnut and sprock,
Have taken fuel pump out and connected new fuel line, this has worked thank you, still not revving clean, cleaned out pilot and main jets, checked needles and diaphrams are all good, is there a measurement to set the floats to, they looked good to me, opening and closing valve fine and all looked even.
ticks over fine, and under 3000 rpm its clean, but even in neutral it won`t rev over 7000 rpm and coughs and splutters, when riding it starts coughing at about 4000 rpm and won`t go over 5-5,500 rpm.
Thanks in advance
Pete

Hi to all,
Just a huge thank you to everyone for there great advice, have removed fuel pump ( glad to see the back of that ), breather in tank was blocked and a dodgy connection to 1-4 coils. she`s not running perfect yet but done 30 miles today which has put a big smile back on my face, once again many thanks to CBRF
A happy biker
