Mirror Problems
Hi, I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice, I have owned a 88 CBR1000F-J for a few years now, she's in beautiful condition and only covered 13000 miles from new.
One problem, I'm a big lad, and can see practically nothing in the mirrors accept my shoulders, Ive looked for extenders but they only seem to be available for later models.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to hear them.
Many thanks
Calvin

Have a similar problem myself Calvin , I can check one side at a time but not both .
My only solution is to tuck my elbows in real tight and I can just about see behind with both .
Not ideal but what the hey! Mind you it encourages me to my 'life saver'.

Thanks for the replies, yes it probably does make you look over your shoulder more often, could really do with being able to watch my back end at a glance without taking my eye off the road ahead.
Someone must have made a solution for this problem, the mirrors on these bikes are practically useless unless you're a little bloke, perhaps some mirror extenders for another model might fit, bar end mirrors are a good idea, I hadn't thought of that one, thanks.

Calvin, the problem is not your mirrors, the problem is you are not going fast enough.

I have the same issue and I do the same as Hawkwind.
The bar end mirrors is a possible solution, but they might hit the faring upon turning.
If you try these come back and report.

I've sold a pair of mirrors off a 94 to a guy with an 89. It solved the prob cause they have a longer arm. All he did was swap the mounting parts over. May be the solution to your prob too... Plus he kept the factory look.
Hope that helps...

Thanks Bazman, 94 ones sound promising, can you find out if the bike they were fitted to was an F-J or an F-K as 89 is the point where they changed the fairing.
Found these on ebay which look nice, though may be a bit small, need to have a look at the fairing to see if they would catch.
Cheers

Those mirrors look like they may be made for hollow bars. I don't know about an 88, but the later models don't have hollow bars. Make sure you get the right kind of mirrors if you go the bar end route.

Everyone with a std CBR1000 with the short mirrors does suffer this..
I am very reluctant to change mine from stock so I just put up with it ..
I have fairly broad shoulders so in my mirrors I see next to nothing except jacket
I find that when lane changing a little guess work comes into it ...
I take a look into them and can see the other lane only and if it is clear , I will use mainly my memory of how fast I went past the nearest carts behind me ...to decide on if it is safe ... Yer it is a bit hap hazard , but I have gotten used to it ..
My biggest worry is not spotting the cops cruising up behind me in the same lane till its too late

I'm having the same issues. My wife has Napoleon bar ends on her 83 Kawi. I'm gonna try them on my bike if they fit. If they work, I may look at getting some mirror block offs although I suppose getting any that fit will be a problem.
