Just curious what you guys have for miles on your bike and if you have higher milage what I should look out for. I've just broke 40k on mine a few weeks ago and it is still running great, haven't had any problems at all (knock on wood). Is there anything I need to look out for? I usually put about 6k on a year and hope to get a few more years out of her.

 

HELLO, I'VE GOT 44,000 ON MY 87 CBR 1000. SHE IS STILL GOING STRONG. I WOULD HOWEVER BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE OLE CAM CHAIN TENTIONER. MINE IS RATTLING NOW BUT I HAVE NOT REPLACED IT JUST YET. THAT IS THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF. HAVE FUN.....

 

Yeah my cam chain rattles pretty good when I start her up until she warms up. Any idea on costs to get it replaced?

 

i just had my bike in the shop in march for major
repair ever time you would roll it backwards
in gear it would jump the timing
it ended up being the front cam chain guide had broke off above the
crank it cost me alot to get it fixed but it fixed now


i had a new cam chain all guides, tensioner all new gaskets
new bearing new starter clucth a gear that goes to the starter
and some needle bearing

honda quoted me around $1500.00
but they had to put the head off of it
but end up being around $ 2200.00
but i only had $ 300.00 in the bike
when i got it so it was worth fixing because
it was in perfect shape i'm the second owner

mine only had 13k on it when i had to fix it

 

Forty One thousand on mine and counting..... nothing wrong yet. I rode over twenty thousand on it last year, and I never needed anything other than tires and oil. [8D]

 

Great looking bike for its age.

Usual problems range could included Starter Clutch, Starter clutch dampner, rectifyier, and Cam Chain tensioner.

It's recommended to replace the Cam chain tensioner aroung 80,000 Klms (around 40,000 Miles? imperial) But bearing in mind the old addage, if it's not broken......,

Your going to love this bike. Only major problem after a long ride is the lenth of time it takes to wipe the smile of my face and seems to increase as I gain greater skill. Happy Riding

 

I had my cam chain tesioner replaced at 43,000 miles and now I have over 50,000 miles on her. It runs and rides well. I think that I may need a little carberator work, but you couldn't tell if I was running her right next to ya. Love my bike! I change the oil between 1,500 miles and 2,000 miles and keep her good and clean.

 

93 has 30k on it...

I went and cranked it up last weekend and suddenly the #1 cylinder was not firing.
Replaced the spark plugs but still no fire. Coils are on order now. She should be back to full health this weekend.

Hey guys,
I joined a while ago but this is my first post. I'm the original owner of my 1996 CBR1000F. It's in mint condition and I have a whopping 5,000 miles on it! Original tires, plugs, brakes, etc.. As you can see, I don't take it out that much, but it runs great! The Honda dealer out by me can't believe the condition my bike is in. Cool site btw.

My 1987 FH has got just over 33,000 miles on it. There's a little camchain rattle for a minute or so before it gets warm, but nothing worth worrying about yet (I hope!).

Who's got the largest amount of miles on their CBR then? I heard rumours of one doing over 300,000 miles on its original engine, but that's unsubstantiated.
