You would still want to perform the measurements as described, just removing the shock bolt instead of the link bolt, to arrive at the linkage ratio and therefore the change you will effect. To change the upper link you'd have to strip the bike pretty well for access.

Doing the links would be all bolt in and could be tried at several lengths, easily returned to stock if the change wasn't liked.

I'm sorry that this turned into a "how to raise it", rather than "how to lower it" thread, but the methods would be the same. You'd just add length to the links rather than reduce length. Also, when doing any of this work, changes like an inch, give or take, may not sound like much but in practice it can be pretty dramatic.

Speaking in general, I wouldn't lower one because they already have corner clearance issues when ridden hard, but if you aren't worrying about cornering, I guess you could do it. Drag racing is an example where lowering might be beneficial. Good luck. I hope it was beneficial, at least a little.

Edit add: Something just crossed my mind. If my memory is correct, I think these have the links welded to tube spacers or bearing sleeves. If so, and I'm pretty sure that memory is correct, then remaking the links will be a more involved process and I don't remember the details of the design to offer any specific recommendations. On many bikes that isn't the case but on these I think it is. The process of arriving at the dimension changes would be the same but the fabrication of the parts might be much more involved. Sorry if that mislead anybody.

Hey:

A quick solution is a Corbin seat and raise the forks in the tubes 13-20mm and you will be about an 1 1/2" lower on the bike.
Don't go crazy with the forks as they will bottom on the fender/fairing and bring you to an unwelcome and possible dangerous stop,
so be careful and check all your suspensions changes, Before you ride.
