I'm waiting for somebody else to make the investment in this to see if it makes a differance

The kit will increase the displacement by about 50 CC. This will increase the torque by the same percentage, i.e. about 5 percent only. The power will also be increased by 5 percent since power is a function of torque (and rpm). I believe a big bore kit is simply not worth the money considering costly machine work thatis also included. The increase in torque is no more than you will get by going down from a17t to 16t front sprocket. You willloose some top speed with a sprocket change vs. i big bore kit but the Cane is not really designed to move faster than it already does and 260 km/h should be enough to outrun just about anything if one dare. There are quicker bikes but no one but insane people will average much more than 200 km/h on roads anyway.

The situation would be different if the engine needs to be bored anyway, but in this case a used engine may be a cheaper option.I've read that big bore kits may make the engine prone to overheat; I've not tested a kit myself though.

The big problem with the above kit is the 12:1 compression ratio it produces......
12 to one is not a big problem with pump gas and a efficient alumin head, which the Cane has. You just need to clean up the combustion chamber with aDremel or similar. Almost all new sport bikes are 12 to1 ore more stock.

I'm running 12 to1 on my Bird, and on top of that I also have a 3-degree ignition advancer that will make the bike even more prone to pre-ignition. The bike runs fine and never pings onnormal pump gas :-)

ORIGINAL: 88caneboy ..... also my local shop just got a dyno and are going to start having dyno nights. gonna go there and see how i do. im expecting about 85-95 rwhp and about 75-85 rwtq considering stock hp is like 135 and tq is like 104? correct me if im wrong and you lose about 30% or so? but we will see and i will keep a list of mods i try and new dyno read outs to show whats goin on with the bike

Andrew
The rear wheel horse power is usually 12 to 15percent lower than the power on the crank. So you may get a reading of more than 110 rwhp if the bike is stock.About 120 rwhp seemsto be normalfor Canes with a4-2-1 system. Then it depends inwhat kind of dyno that is used. Dynojet dynamometers reads about 10 percent more than Eddy Current based.

Why are you always coming on here and making so much sense, R1000?

I can't say I really understand the bigger bore kit with respect to this bike. I mean, I understand it, but...
It seems like ahell of a lot of work, money, and risk for the potential gain.

My buddyrides an '03ZX9R, he weighs 100lbs less than me, and so does his bike. He's also got more HP than me, and been riding abit longer than me. If I were to bore my bike, he'sstill gonna whip my ***.

I have the Wiseco 1049 cc kit in my '88. Compression is not a problem. I can only get 91 octane here and it never gave me a problem with detonation(until I turbo'd it LoL). Aluminum heads resist detonation, plus the fact that it is a bike and isn't as much load as you would see in a car. I didn't notice a huge gain with the kit, mostly torque. Quarter mile times stayed the same(but I was having traction problems with the stock 140 rear at the time). Doing some big changes this winter. Converting to Megasquirt EFI, 8" rear rim/240 tire single sided, single sided front, custom bodywork, rebuilt engine etc. Hoping to break 200 whp with redesign of my manifolds and EFI. Should be fun.

Don't do the front sprocket. 145 mph was my top end. 93 CBR 1000 owner. But you can make it fly!
