Looking at the tyre 2 - 3 inches above the tarmac, I'd say he was in foliage for sure. This pic mustve been taken just before he binned it.

Even if the rear tyre does touch down again, the instant grip would throw him.

Old post revived.

Just curious what change did Honda make to increase the rear ride height on 93-96?

Did they lengthen the shock? Or the link arms? If so how did they manage the chain clearance at the muffler?

I have a 90 model. Run a 180 rear (raises a little) and had Wilbers give me a custom shock with ride height adjuster that maxes out to 1" longer than stock.

Just curious as to what made the 93-on bikes ride heigher from the factory.

Thanks,
Andy

WOW you can put a 180 on the rear with out making modifications to the rear. I have a 150 on right now and that a sixe up from the 140. Prob is with tires smaller than 170 i believe are more round and less grip on the hard leans. I could drap pegs on my 1991 VFR on most any good turn but have not had the stones to try to go that much farther on the Hurricane.

No, you can't put a 180 on the '87/'88. It has a significantly more narrow rim than the '90+. (3.5" vs. 5.5")
The stock size on the 87/88 is a 140. 150 is fine, too. Stock size on the 90+ is a 170.
Just FYI....

Default knee dragging

It is possible to drag your knees on a 1000f. I do it quite a bit on my home track US 421 "the snake". You can check out a pic.that was taking at Deals Gap on[URL="http://us129photos.com"] from 9/30/09.page20 under sport bikes.photo#800. and on youtube [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hRGfMWl0Cg"].......

I don't drag my knees - have more respect for my kneecaps nowadays and my leathers don't have knee protectors.
However, I can drag my exhaust shrouds both sides - my pegs don't touch the road at all - maybe the later ones were longer, not sure.

Just one point to mention regarding lean angle and scraping on a hurricane or any other big heavy bike. Whether your suspension is standard or tuned it's always best to ride SMOOTH! Throwing these heavy beasts around like a 600 sports bike will only unsettle them and end up with someone crying in the dirt. This is my second hurricane and although i don't ride to the level of Dad i.e. on the track, i've been known to scrape the hero blobs, centre stand and of course my sparky knee sliders

If you're going for lean angle then make sure your tyres are warm, be progressive (don't slam it on it's side all in one go) and be smooth, and as long as you have a decent road surface and good tyres you'll get lots of warning before anything bad happens.

And hey........ let's be careful out there
