Update: I got all the farings on and washed her up, so today was the maiden voyage. I took a photo that I'll post later.

The bike is exactly what I was looking for--a larger sport bike/ sport tourer. It looks like it makes most of the power up high, so once it passes it's "trials", I'll have to see what it can do on the open road.

The tapered bearings were worth the work and are VERY smooth. I got a V&H Supersport to replaced the rotted Yosh system, but I don't like the sound at all. Oh well--choices are limited. Front brakes are OK, and probably could use a follow up bleed. Rear brake seems good. I did have one snaufu when I ran out of gas because I had the petcock vacuum fitting hooked up to the wrong nipple at 6 o'clock. DOH

When I ran through the shopping center today to get gas, the old girl still turned heads.

Power comes in at 5000, and runs all the way to 10500 -peak torque at 8500.

Thanks for the comments. I've been commuting on it every all week and so far so good.

Since I did the whole bike, I haven't taken it up to high speed yet. I guess I don't trust myself. I hope if the wheels fall off I'm going slow.

Im looking at a 1988 CBR1000F with just over 15,000mi

It seems to be in good shape but Ive never really set eyes on it. I have pics but no real idea untill I get my hands on it. I'd imagine that I'll need to do much of the same work. So my questions are:

1. How much did the work you did cost?
2. Was it worth it?
3. Ive done minro work on a bike but nothing major. Is this gonna be too difficult for me?
4. Any advice???

You really have to be into it to do this stuff. I looked at it and wanted to part it out. The plastics are hard to get too.

Here's some rough costs:

Tires- $250
Chain/sprockets- $100
Chain tool- $85
Bearings- $50
Carb parts- $50
Exhaust- $300
Bolts/hardware- $75
Grips- $10
Radiator flush/coolant- $15
Ebay fender eliminator- $15
Rear lights- $20
Replacement parts- Forks/calipers/swingarm/spare carb- $400

Optional- powercoating gun- $125

Mine was stored outside under a tarp and the splashback got to the lower parts. I tossed the front calipers, forks and rotors right away and got better one's from ebay. The swing arm was all rusted too (ebay again). So right there I had a lot of work. I wouldn't get in the bike at all without new bearings (wheels and steering). Mine were all rusted and I would have been killed had I rode it. Then you need to do the valves and carb sync. The carb sync gauge is about $50. My time was probably 50 hrs++ plus to get it all back together. I almost forgotsome of my tabs broke on the disassembly so I had to fashion new tabs out of ABS plastic and adhesive.
