just wont start, fuel is getting to the cylinders and the motor turns over it just doesnt fire up. However i can push start it and it runs fine.... what the hell could it possibly be?

It sounds as the battery has retired. Measure the voltage across the battery at 5000 rpm, it should read about 14 volt. If it is lower, like only 12 volt or so,the battery is real bad or there is a charging problem. If it runs OK for quite a distance after a push start, itappears thatthe battery is bad. A bad battery can take the R/Rdown, so avoid running on a bad battery, they are far cheaper than R/R units.
So does it help to keep a trickle charger on the battery when not riding for more than a few days? (I usually clip the charger on after a few days parked) Or do the standard wet batteries just die out after a season or two? What do I gain with using the newer more expensive dry cell models? 87Hurricane
