Default How to stop crankshaft from moving?

Does anybody know how to stop the crankshaft spinning.

I need to remove the timing rotor and all the manual says to to open up the other side and hold the crankshaft. But considering the end looks like this I am buggered if I know how to do that.

Any ideas?

just throwing this out there but try a strap wrench(im pretty sure thats what they are called) . i think craftsman makes one they come in handy for oddly shaped things. if you dont know what im talking about let me know and il try to find you a link with a picture. if you do know what im talking about just make sure there is NO oil or other lubricant on the piece you want to hold still. hope this helps.....

I know what you mean about the strap wrench, but it is recessed enough that nothing will grip it properly.

F**king Stupid Honda.

Is the engine in the bike? If so, put the bike in gear (first gear), and have someone apply the brake. If the engine is out of the bike you could try this:
Get a bolt that will fit the crank end (I'm assuming that the passage shown in your diagram is threaded).
Put a nut on the bolt.
Screw the bolt in until it bottoms.
Use the nut to lock the bolt by tightening it against the crank.
Put a wrench on the bolt and use it to hold the crank.

Be careful that you don't strip the threads on your crank. This won't work if the rotor bolt is really torqued down.
