Dead reckoning is great if you ride the same roads the same way all the time.

My MPG can vary wildly from 28 - 38 but I always chicken out when she hits the red.

It just doesn't seem natural to me to ride past a perfectly good petrol station on the red when I can fill up in ten minutes, how long will it take me to push her half a mile? In leathers???

Also it begs the question, did Mr Honda mean Imperial gallons or US???

I know I'm a wimpy, fair-weather rider, I only ride my bike for the pleasure it brings me, but pushing aint no fun

About 4.6gals to reserve on mine. I couldn't tell you if there's actually 1.2gals left, though, because I've only gone about 30miles on reserve. (although I generally rip on her and only average about 36mpg)
And I always run in "on" and not reserve. Nothing old school about it. Screw running out of fuel. Hell, I wish all vehicles had a reserve tank.
I also like trucks with 2 full size tanks. Just flip a switch and watch the gauge go back to full.

Default well

Always run "ON"

185 miles to reserve (on highway) then another 60 miles - ish on reserve ! total

Like Shadow my gauge pretty much only tells you when it's full and hits
E after 2 1/2 gallons has gone.

RotoPax in/on your bags for reserve when you can't find a station in
striking distance on the highway on long trips usually "upstate" Maine
where also finding open gas stations at certain times late in the day
can be a bit a guessing game ! ..... good insurance ..... use 'em for my
boat trips too
