Default RE: Fan not working

My 93 run hotter than it used to.. In traffic, the fan will kick in at 3/4 on the temp gauge.

I had a coolant leak a couple years ago and it seems to run hotter ever since. I fixed the leak and refilled it but I think the mix may be off.

Well I've solved the problem. I flushed out the radiator fluid and replaced it with a 50/50 mixture. Man what a difference it made, i took it out for a few ours, also let it idle for a while and the temp gauge never went above the half way mark. Thanks to Shane and his great drawings for installing the fan switch. I've got a back up now to manually kick in the fan, which was pretty easy to install. I highly recommend changing the fluid for those bikes that are running hot.

I live in HOT Arizona. I found the biggest fix is the proper mix of water/coolant. Some people have tried useing the extended life (red) coolant. I do not recomemnd this in a bike. It can gel and plug ports. Watet wetter can help. As far as putting a switch on the fan, is a good midea. Make sure you follow the directions carefully. If you do not you will drain the battery. The charging sytem cannot support the amount of draw the fan pulls. Make sure you run it only as needed and not for long periods of time.

I agree that water wetter ( made by Redline) is a great cheap way to help lower your operating tempature
