I knew the difference there, but that's the only pic he has and I was hoping from the markings on the can someone could recognize the model, thanks for the reply.

OK, another option which I considered and should be very economical, is to cut away the T-section on stock headers and weld an curved middle pipe to any available used modern sportbike single muffler. I beleive that would give the same performance increase but for far less money.

You seem to know a lot about exhausts, do you or anyone else know what type V&H this is? a guy sent me a pic and wants to sell it cheap but he doesnt know if it's a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 thanks

That can is a Vance & Hines SSR-2, which is an oval super sport racing can. Usually, they come with a 4-1 setup. This model and the super sport model are off the few choices that are still available for the hurricane, or newer CBR100f models.

I tried to buy a new V&H SSR-2 system here in Sweden, but was told that the production was closed for the CBR 1000 F. I also have a friend having one, and the muffler seems to small to harmonize with the big CBR and doesn't look as the one in picture above. Anyway, in the cataloque it has an 4-2-1 header.

just goes to show ya what companies can still get what. denniskirk.com has both the ssr-2 and the super sport still available for our bike. The best and most accurate advice is from someone who has already put the part on our kind of bike and knows the outcome. That's why I don't always rely on websites. This forum I trust.

Again.......my brother had the super sport exhaust...full exhaust 4 into eventually 1. I dont know if it was 4-2-1 or not, but I would assume. It was a full super sport exhaust however they are built and it KILLED midrange. There was a flat.......and I mean FLAT spot right at 6K to 65K. It sucked to ride around it as that's a big gap. We tried all arrangement of jets and needle placement and couldnt get it out completely and even at it's best it sucked in the midrange compared to stock, and was only marginally down up top. That is just my experience with that exhaust on your style of bike. Someone has probably made it work and liked it. It just wasnt us.

I have the V&H system pictured in R1000's post with a Dynojet kit. It runs great, but I am at or near sea level so I can't help with the high altitude question. From my experiance with putting after market exhausts on 4 cylinder bikes (30+ years) you will need some kind of carb adjustment. It helps if someone has done the homework for you and put out a kit.

gixxereater, did you ever put the stock pipes back on? I find it hard to believe an aftermarket exhaust system by itself could cause such an extreme difference.

Yeah, we put the stock style exhaust with dual slip ons on it and it helped. But still couldnt get it tuned perfect. He ended up putting different stock carbs and the stock cans back on and it ran like top. Just couldnt get the carbs tuned right after they'd been messed with by the previous owners.

It sounds like the carbs were causing the mid range flat spot and not the V&H pipes. That makes more sense to me.
