Hey I also got tired of the 'big ugly' and I winded up with eliminating the fender all together and mounting the plate on the swingarm.

1000FFreakyFast/renxwar, first thing I'd be doing is finding out if that is even legal!!
No way you'd get away with that in Australia. For starters it's not orientated the right way up and secondly it's hidden from the left side of the bike, great for avioding speed cameras and all but an on the spot defect and a hefty fine at the least.
Edit: oh and don't forget there would be no number plate light either.
