Default Hey all New Member CBR1000F Brake light

Hi everyone I have I have an 88 CBR1000f
Brake light works when rear brake is engaged.
Does not work when front is engaged.
Any tips on testing if its the switch or the wiring.

Thanks

Mic J

Wiring diagram is at the back of the service manual

you should be able to pull the connectors off the switch on your brake lever and use a multimeter on the switch in continuity mode to check if it works - You should also hear it click when you pull it. Sometimes with adjustable brake levers the travel isn't enough so open the handle to its longest travel and try again if there's no click.

If you want to test it further (or don't have a multimeter) - jump the two connectors with a paperclip to simulate pulling the lever - the brake light should come on.

The switch has two little connecting prongs to the wiring:

The connections can easily be dislodged. They are also prone to corrosion. They're also very fiddly to clean.

Good luck.

PS Nice bike!

PPS Mic, where are you in Oz?

Pretty sure it will be the switch, as Rock suggests jump the leads to make sure.
Easy to fix and for once cheap to replace.
