Default Help with a part

Can anyone tell me how the clips at the bottom of the lower Cowl are suppose to secure together? I think mine is missing and it is loose. I've circled the parts that I dont know what they are. One looks like the bolt and nut that could hold it together, but I dont see one on my bike, and the other one is a long rectanglethingy? Anyone?

The two lower cowls interlock via two opposite-facing "slots" which slide into one onother, as can be seen in your drawing and are then secured by the nut and bolt unit shown . As for the rectangular plate, my bike doesn't have one.....

I believe that item #5, part num 64310-MZ2-000ZB is the lower part of the lower cowl, it is different colors depending on what year your bike is. Mine is Mat Black, others are Medium Grey. Item #7 is called Sheet, part num 64311-MS2-670. I believe it's foil protection for the inner side of the cowl. As Shadow1 mentioned, the 2 lower cowls lock together, then item #28 64535-ML7-000 is a spring clip that holds them as well.

So there is a clip! I couldnt tell by the picture and since I dont have another one to look at, I just wrapped a wire around the inside of the two pieces of plastic to keep them together. The dude at the Honda dealer here just looked at me funny when I asked him about this clip. I'm so glad someone knew about it, thanks so much IDODIRT and Shadow1. BTW, does the clip just "push" on to lock?)

They just slide together like taking the first two fingers on each hand and making a V with them, then pushing the vees together (pse excuse clumsy description.) Once it's done, put the nut and bolt thingy back in.....Fairings one one side must be loose to allow forward and backward movement of course. Be sure to have a bit of help, or you run the risk of breaking the tabs, the fairings can be a little unweildy to work with, but you'll soon get the hang of it....Replace all the fairing bolts and nuts loosely, until they're all in - can be a bit of a mission when some are tight and others then won't fit......[:@][:@]

I'm sorry Gill, I can't stop staring at your a$$ . Speaking of the lower end, I thought maybe a photo or two might help. The first is from the under side by the oil pan looking forward and up towards the clip.

This other one is from the front of the fairings behind the front tire looking in and down towards the clip.

Sometimes a photo helps.

Great photos, idodirt.

Gill, The guys are correct, in the diagram that you attached shows the clip as part #28.
One of the two lower cowls opposite-facing "slots" that Shadow1 refers to can be seen in the diagram also.
Look at thered circle to the right, just left of the circle is part #31, the line from part #31 to the cowl touches the far left side of the slot.

Just in front and behind of the slots are tabs that interlock with the tabs on the other lower cowl half. I find the best way isto push up from under the bike on the cows and slid the interlockingtabs to home and then install the clip. Install the clip the way idodit's photos show with the clip end up as so it will not be pulled off by grass or any thing else that may hit it.

Great picture IDODIRT. I have ordered the clip from the local Honda dealer here. $5.50 CAN. Well if it keeps things together its worth it.
Kindest regards everyone!
