Help installed competition shift kit now shifts opposite
So I installed a competition shift spring on my 87 Hurricane.. I was soo careful following the instrucitons. I have it back together and it shifts but the pattern seems opposit. usually you pull up to go to higher gear now it goes up threw the gears when you push down on the shift lever.. I have not put it back together yet till I get this figured out. Seems like you have to put the shifter body into the gear shift cam in the correct position. There is a mark that is neutral and I am doing it just like the picture in both factory manual and the haynes.. Neither manual seems to say anything about what gear or position to put this.. I am sure it is something simple.. why do I have this backwards??
Thanks for any help

That's what a competition shift pattern does.
If you didn't know that then you have no idea why you bought it in the first place.
To put you out of your misery and obvious ignorance, you can lean the bike over with your foot on top of the gear lever ready to change up without hindering ground clearance!

you are right in that I win the stupid prize but not for the reason you list. this is just a Hi performance return spring.. Just makes the shifts faster.. I had the shift lever on backwards!!! I take my stupid prize with grace... Thanks for the input..

I used to have a competition shift pattern on my nsr250,brilliant if you can get used to it!!
You`ve got me thinking now.because it would give some much needed ground clearance when cornering....hmmm....where`s my toolbox....lol

Before you go getting all excitied about changing the gear patteren remember a few things.
Only on the track is it possible to lean this bike over far enough for ground clearence while changing to be a big problem.
On my old GSXR I used to change the pattern whenever I did a trackday. But all it took was ONE moment of forgetfullness when I was using a reverse pattern on the road and I changed down a gear instead of up a gear. The result was a ****ed gearbox. Also having a reverse pattern makes it a bit slower to change down. Not a problem on the track, but I like being able to change down quickly to help slow the bike down on the road in an emergency.
Unless your surname is Rossi and you get 50° lean angles consistently on the road, then just leave it as stock.
