Headlight bulbs..My only gripe to Mr. Honda!
So, my second low beam gave up the ghost at last. I didn't bother when just one went as I'm not riding at night at the moment. Last time I bought standard H4 bulbs that my Haynes manual told me would fit...they didn't, so I ended up cutting the bottom lugs off and making them fit. They were a bit loose and dodgy though. This time I decided to bite the bullet and go genuine. $30+ each bulb!! I put a + then because I must have tripped out (a legacy from the late eighties, what can I say..it was fun though) and can't remember thirty what, exactly. I ordered them anyway, after all, we're all made of money aren't we? It ***** me that a manufacturer would make even a headlight bulb a cash cow, when we surely spend enough already.
Once on the net I saw an adaptor ring that a guy in the USA makes for various bikes, including ours. Anybody got them?
It's a ***** of a job, at the best of times to change the bulbs on these bikes...even worse when you know it's cost you too much!
Sorry about the whinge fellas but, due to my heritage (the Aussies will know what I mean), I regard it as a birthright!
Anyway, it's Friday arvo, I'm just about to crack my third Cooper's Sparkling Ale and I feel better already for venting my displeasure to folk who'll understand.
Later guys.

Spare parts are and have always been a nightmare cost wise , but all we can do is drink more I recon ... nothing will change the bastards pricing ...
That adapter I can remember being talked about , but I will have to look it up because of my bloody alsymers...
I have been lucky with globes and I don't do many night klms these days, so it has not been a problem .......but om sure a good work around is hiding somewhere online or in here on the CBRF...
Might have to wait for a few of the other boys to chime in to find them though...
You enjoy your evening....and venting is no probs on the CBRF
...om only just starting my first Frid night coldie as I type ...

But to get back on track , the standard H4 bulbs just slot straight into my bike , no mod's needed .
I bought something like this

Yep I have them, sent from a lad in Canada as I recall. 10$ Canadian I think and what a bargain.I fitted the tungsten blue halogen bulbs and what a pleasure !
Next time any one has to do their bulbs, take out the instruments - takes about 15 mins and is much easier than grovelling down behind the clocks, especially if you have hands as large as mine.
There's a how to up in the technical section...................

I changed mine and used standard H4 bulbs too. Then I changed to HID and never looked back - stunning conversion.
UK and European bikes have standard H4 bulbs like the cars use.
If I remember correctly - Some crazy law in the USA and Canada restricted the headlight on a bike to a maximum of 45w. The solution honda used was to use H4H bulbs so that normal car H4 bulbs wouldn't just slot in.
UK and Europe decided to allow bikes the same power lights as cars 60w/55w.
