Got a Wobble
#21
Off to work tomorrow so it'll have to wait untill tuesday before I can have another look at her .
I think Swisherred and I may have the same problem , when I was out on the other rest runs I must have been in too high a gear to kick it off , it also happened on a much steeper downhill stretch . So it's maybe caused by the weight on the front wheel?
Strange though that it disappears as soon as I hold the bars again
Used Nevadas method for checking alignment and it seems OK but I'll do it again when I can borrow an extra pair of hands , was a little difficult with the centre stand getting in the way

I will let you in on a little secret Hawk..but don't tell anyone ..lol..
mine has always done it to some degree I gave up mths and mths ago trying to trace it and get rid of it all together and yer , mine only does it if I hit a tiny bump with no hands or try letting go going down steep hills..
On the flat , if I let go and just tap one side of the bars softly , off she goes again...
Grabbing the bars stops it immediately though, just like yours..
I just don't let go of the bloody bars with both hands ... one hand is fine but two can cause heart me a attack..
BTW- I can run straight up to 230-240klm per hr with no sign of any wobble..smooth as silk.....mind you I don't think I will try to let go of the bars at that speed .. or a nasty surprise may await me mate..

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down
WHAT yu mean laying flat on me guts on the friggin road, half cross eyed, after at least 4 good old cold JB's and having listened to a couple of real head twisting CD's,.. then peering down the line of the wheels and thinking , WTF , she'll be bloody right mate , is not the right way Joe !!!
Dam , thought I had it all sussed mate lol

Hawk, if one fork spring is weaker than the other, you will also get a slight wobble. Just don't let go like Steve said and call it a day. Now, if it gets worse, then it is time to fix it. I went out today and put it in 6th at 25 mph and let go of the bars. There was a little bit of movement in my handle bars too. Then I ramped it up to 40 mph and let go. Gone, no wobble. And as they say, "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down."
P.S. Thanks Steve, I got that quote chit down now brother. I "is" techno boy now!!

Brought back from the dead!
OK guy's , sorry to revive a long dead thread , but I got a bit more info and hopefully a positive outcome
Had the front tyre changed last week , should'a checked when I was at the shop but got home to find they had fitted the tyre the wrong way round
Was actually looking for the spot that shows the light/heavy point , then looked at the direction indicators on the tyrel and noticed the one on the wheel was pointing the other way So rang the shop and the guy insisted the new tyre went on the same way as the old tyre so the old one must have been on the wrong way ( trying to shift the blame on to someone else). So I let them know it was them that fitted the last tyre as well.
So went back got it fitted properly and popped it on the bike .
Now I don't know if it's because the tyre is better , balanced better , or what , but the steering shake has gone totally , even at 50-60 mph no hands-no wobble
The only real difference is the wheel and tyre are now turning in the right direction and if the wheel has a direction indicator on it , I must presume it's directional . Never even occurred to me to check for this before !
The guy at the shop said he'd never come across a directional wheel before?
So the lesson I've learned is check the wheel and tyre direction after you get new rubber and check it at the shop not when you get home

The guy at the shop said he'd never come across a directional wheel before?
Then he ain't much of a mechanic
I would guess it was more wheel balance and tyre wear than tyre direction, but as I've never put one on backwards I can't comment. It also means your brake discs were working backwards too, huh . They have directional indicators too........
Makes you think..............
I check anything and everything when she leaves the shop, and the more I see workshops the less I trust them.

That Hawk man is a total pissah to find out , but it's cool all is good now.
Think about it though, if you found reverse the ride would have been real smooth going backwards. he hee hee

Disc's!! Forgot about them!! Had the brakes off last time the tyre was changed so they went back on the wrong way!! Will have to check tomorrow . So before I had tyre in correct direction , wheel in wrong direction and disc's in correct direction . What a mess ! Of course the disc's will need changing around thanks for the heads-up Pete
I do realy hate putting stuff in the garage for repair!!

My old, worn tire wobbled like hell.
New one rides great. Just like you, I can now take my hands off the bars without issue. Nice feeling, eh?
Glad it's all better now...
As far as the "mechanic"....
Exactly. Whether he was lying or not... what an ***.
