Fuel Tap/Throttle Cable....

Fuel Tap/Throttle Cable....
Hi all,
I've had my '88 CBR1000F/J for a few months now, and I love it to bits, but there are a couple of aspects of the bike that remain a mystery to me....Was wondering if any owners of similar bikes out there (Or anyone with an Owner's Manual - I can't find one of the correct year for a U.K. bike!) could help me out with them:
Firstly, the fuel tap....I'm sure that on most of my previous bikes, "On" was down, "Off" was central, and "Reserve" was up....My bike has no markings saying what's what, so I have been assuming that the above applied, but in this month's issue of Practical Sportsbikes mag, they test a VFR750F of similar vintage to my bike, where the fuel tap is the other way around ("On" up, "Off" central, "Res" down)....Can someone please confrim which is correct on the CBR? If it's the same as for the VFR, then I've been running around on reserve all the time....Luckily, it has the gauge aswell, and I never let it run too low!
Secondly, ever since the bike arrived, I've noticed that the throttle does not "Snap shut" when I release it in the same way it has on all my other bikes....I've been assuming a seized cable, and upon investigating a possible replacement, have discovered that my bike has two throttle cables....An "Open" cable, and a "Close" one....My question here is: Given that it has cables performing both operations, is the throttle still supposed to "Snap" closed?
Sorry for the silly questions.
David.

Hey David
The fuel tap positions are pretty much universal mate ... except for your VFR?? ..LOL
and just how you describe them in your post ...
Down = reserve
UP = on
Sideways = off
As for your throttle mate , yes it should close quite quickly...
Allot of the time it is a combination of several things that will stop this from happening ...
Lack of Lube
Poor adjustment, or to tightly adjusted (no slack )
Or as simple as the throttle body binding at the ends of the bars or on the bar itself mate ...
I check mine by checking for free play first , lube both cables , then disconnecting the cables , removing the throttle body and seeing if it spins freely on the bars ...
After all of that mate , she should close like a bloody clam !!! lolol
good luck ..

^ I believe my '94 is up for on and down for RES, now that you mention it. I could go out and check but I not going back out there. I just finished pulling the fender off my daughter's car and hammering out the dents the deer left. I had to pull it off and fix it in the rain.
Jokes apart is your daughter ok?

A momentary laps of reason I spose ...lol
To tell the truth , I have never taken much notice of mine , I never have had to run reserve ever before .... I fill as soon as that bloody guage gets anywhere near low !!!
ow well , spose I better edit it out so that more unfortunate souls do not follow me down the road to ruin ...lol
