Default Front Brake Lever Binding

Ok, so I thought maybe a couple of you may have had this same problem in the past, and could point me in the right direction.

The front brake lever is not smooth. It wants to bind up when you pull it in, and then it lets go. Not good at all.
You apply steady pressure, and it binds, then you add some more pressure, then it lets go and jams the brakes.
It did it a little last year, but now it's getting worse.

I originally thought it was just in the lever pin, but I've taken it all apart and greased it, and its still happening.
I was thinking maybe the plunger/cylinder is binding??
I don't get it.....

Any help would be appreciated..

It could be the cylinders binding, maybe brake fluid is old and causing exacerbation of the problem. I'd clean out the master cylinder and refill it, then check the wheel cylinders.

10-4, Shadow...thanks.
I'm sure it needs new fluid...it's pretty old.

My first attempt will be to lube the end of the plunger where it cantacts the lever.
I heard that it can be as simple as that.... I guess we'll see.

I didn't even think of that. I suppose it could make a difference if the lever is "skipping" across the end of the plunger... Hmmm...

I'll let you all know when I get home. (as if ya care.....DILLIGAF, remember? )

This is the first day in weeks that I didn't ride to work. Just raining too hard and I was lazy, I guess. Now I just want to get home so I can play with her...

Thanks, shadow....

Wussy !
Yep... I deserved that one..
I never care about the weather, and ride in the rain all the time. I think that's why my boss calls me "wildman".. (well, partly the reason)

I just got up this morning and couldn't seem to bring myself to ride in a windy downpour...
I'm slipping, shadow!! Gettin lazy!

BTW, I put some grease on the contact point between the cylinder plunger and the lever... it seems a little smoother, but I'll have to take a ride to be sure....

Well, I just got back from riding and the lever pull is WAY better now.
Just a dab of grease where the lever hits the cylinder, and it's all better.

I didn't really expect it to work, but it did....

Dam, now I don't get to rebuild or replace my master...
It could still use a fluid swap, though.

Hopefully somebody will have the same problem and find this!

Sir Trout , it may be worth renewing the brake fluid as a matter of course .

It doesn't take long to do and at least it removes one of the many variables in the breaking system

Let's face it , the front does most of the stopping . 'Be safe', that's coming from a guy who rides with BALD tyres!!!

Ha ha...
Yep, I'm gonna change fluids here shortly... I've been meaning to, anyway.

I'll change my brake fluid if you get rid of that ungodly rear tire of yours...

Mine started do exactly the same thing. It binds when pulled straight back. It does not bind if I apply upward or downward slight pressure when pulled. I am not home right now to look at it. I should be home sometime next week.

Of all the times I am not home it had to be this week. Americade is just up the road from my house this week.
