When you want to partially quote what someone else says, leave in the bracketed quote at the beginning and end of each quote that appears when you click on the quote button. Let's see if this works, since I'm using Firefox for this post.
Never mind. I see from your last post that you already figured this out.

I think I remember that the tube size was increased slightly from the older bikes. I would check them before I started pulling things apart.

Any machine shop should check them for free. Any decent hardware store should have Outside Calipers like the one in the center in this LINK.

Even taking a C-clamp to check them should help in determining if they are the same. Just tighten the clamp just enough the get a slight (real slight) fit and then see if it feels the same on the other tubes.

EDIT: Actually, you need to remove the old tubes anyway, so why not slip them out and see how the e-bay tubes fit. You will know then if you should start pulling them apart.

Just checked on the fiche in the manuals section at the top of the page.

1990 front fork tube part No 51410-MS2-003 (both left and right)

1987 front fork tube part No 51410-MM5-003 (right hand side)

1987 front fork tube part No 51510-MM5-003 (left hand side)

Would appear the parts are different

Seem to remember this being the case when I was looking for replacement fork tubes myself. I seem to remember they are slightly narrower.

Another way to test them would be to loosen the triple trees just enough to get the original forks out, then try sliding the 'new' ones in and see how they fit

I'm going to try and get an accurate measurement somehow after the holiday. I have had no luck finding a set of forks for a 90-91 bike so hopefully they will work.

If not.. does anyone have suggestions as to what other bikes have the same size fork tubes? Has anyone grafted a different front end onto one of these bikes and had it work out well? My CBR is in very good shape considering all I have put her though.. mileage is only 30k, it runs wonderfully.. plastics, aside from the tail and front fender, were barely damaged in the crash.

I'd love to get this bike back on the road but it's been discouraging finding the parts so far. It's worth a lot more to me running than it is in parts.

Hey thanks man, I am too. ATGATT saved the day. I came out with a small bruise on my forehead, a stiff neck and a sore right hand. No broken bones or any serious injury. The EMT's were shocked..

I did get thrown over the bars and land on my head!

The seller contacted me the other day and offered to let me keep the forks if I accepted a refund of my purchase price less the shipping cost.. or I could return them at his expense and have a refund for the entire amount.

I told him I'd keep the forks for the sake of the 20$ shipping. I am hoping I can use the tubes to fix my front end.

If not I can sell them on again and get my $ back easily enough. I bought the forks for 70$, I'm sure someone out there will be willing to pay me 20$ for them.

You could try ALL BIKE ENGINEERING - they make very good aftermarket tubes for most bikes. http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/html/forks.html

I would even go as far as saying they are better quality chrome than OEM.
