Got home from camping today to find my Vesrah kit has arrived and on closer inspection found the kit has the valve stem seals included, there is even a big sticker on the fron of the kit saying "includes valve stem seals" so now I have 2 sets of stem seals, should I use the black Vesrah ones or the blue supposedly u beaut viton ones, I am leaning toward the blue ones, I might just let the mechanic decide. On the mechanic, I discovered I went to school with his wife, but being Tasmanian it is a wonder we aren't actually related, I found my wife in Qld just to make sure she wasn't a distant relative of some kind!
Hopefully the bike will go in for stripping later next week.

Good one mate. You know the old saying though "Two heads are better than one."

I'd let the mechanic decide what seals to use. It sounds like you get on with him and that's really great. Let us know what you find when she's opened up.

Bike is in the w/shop and have found it will have to be rebored. The mechanic says everything else is in great condition, originally he said we would change the cam chain regardless but now says we won't as the chain was still tight and the tensioner was only .25 of the way out. He says the rings on #3 had aligned their openings together at the front of the piston that has caused the scour marks that lead to oil consumption.
So I am now chasing up pistons, rings, gudg pins and circlips ready for a rebore. The piston in the bike reads;
Top...............80012
Middle........4424m07900
Lower..............XG
Bottom.............
The mechanic says the diameter of the barrel as measured with his vernier is 78.5mm
I am looking at buying Honda parts from MrCyles can anyone tell me what the next size up I need .25 or .50?
It looks like 4424m07900 is a wiseco part number that is 3.11" or 79.00mm which is 2mm oversize from what I can find

Unhappy

After further investigation it looks as if I can't bore out any further. So now I am looking at a used cyl barrel on fleabay for about $180 del from USA. I will get the new secondhand barrel bored to suit the wiseco big bore pistons that I have in already and just replace the wiseco rings, should work out cheaper than the original plan of reboring & new piston kit. I still have to discuss the plan with my mechanic but I would say this is the best way to go.

Sounds like a plan to me! Stupid question but have you checked the local wreckers here? Surely there'd be barrels floating around in our corner of the globe.

Have you tried posting in the parts wanted section too? You never know what's lurking in peoples' sheds.

Keep us posted. The mechanic sounds like he's right onto it all too...a good find!!

Good suggestion Dave, Aussie Johnno came thru with a spare jug assy(saved me money and time). The barrel is now in the hands of my mechanic who says it will take around 10 days to get back from being bored. Looks like it is all coming together.
