Best option would be e-Bay or one of the bike breakers.
Buy another 1000F engine - at least you shouldn't have to modify the mountings, and will also have interchangeable spares, which is a good thing with older bikes.

Grab a manual from my siggy if you feel the need.

I was in the same exact boat as you, only a couple months ago. Bought an '87Hurricane with a destoryed cylinder. I have located a few engines in the $500-$850 range but ended up getttng a top end (cylinders, pistons, head and valve cover with the timing chain pads) off ebay for $30. There was a slightly burnt engine out of an '88 that went for $100. So every now and then you can find something.
In your case, since the oil pump chain broke, I would not consider rebuilding it. It can easily cost you X3 more than a good running used engine, The factthat the engine ran without any kind ofoil pressureis not good. Get one that never starved of oil.
Where are you located? I can forward you the info on the engines that I located in the US.

im in the us in pennsylvania. yea i tore it down tonite and found two bad rods and a broken piston ring crank looks good though no major scoring. the trans looks great. even if i get another motor ill prolly still rebuild this one i want to try some perf stuff with it to see how it runs. i would realy apreciate that info
I have all the engine search replies, regardingmy eaby top end buy,at work.BUT I have a few pitons as an extra but not rods. HOWEVER the guy I bought my top end had the rest of the engine available, and this includes the rods too. In the morning I'll look up the ebay auction, but if you find it before me.......just ask him for the rest of the bottom end (con rods and crand shaft). You can probalby get it for a very good price (~$50)!
