Dunlop Roadsmart

Dunlop Roadsmart
This is a new tyre available from Dunlop and I've bought a set because this tyre has received very good comments from testers. The main difference to other sport-touring tyres is that it has superior wet grip. I friend of me visited a track day with his Bird and the new Dunlop Roadsmart’s, he was the fastest guy on the track, neither sport bikes or police motorcycles could follow him in wet conditions.
The tyre has also got very good reports for dry grip and handling. I've been running mine for two days now and must say I'm impressed. The bike is very turn-willing and keep very clean lines thru curves. Another friend has used his Roadsmart on two trackdays and also for commuting. The front tyre has worn from 3.1 mm to 2.9 mm during 4000 km's use. This is exceptional considering the good wet grip. I guess Dunlop has found a good balance between a hard mid section and soft sidewalls.
For those who needs maximum longlivety on tyres I guess the Michelin Pilot Road II still is the best tyre. They are expensive though so perhaps other tyres like Z6 are better in the long run to keep cost if this is very important. The Z6 does not lack dry grip but could be better in wet and cold conditions.
I've recently used a set of Bridgestone BT021's, I've really liked these tyres that are quite good for all conditions. It's a fairly cheap tyre and handles very well in dry. I bit odd is that the front tyre doesn’t last as long on heavy bikes as the rear tyre, I guess this is the price one have to pay for having very good grip on front.
So far, the Dunlop’s are favourites, one shouldn’t be overly optimistic though, and we have to se how they behave after 5000 km’s or so. I expect that a sport-touring tyre will last about 8000 km’s for my driving, if it doesn’t there will be too much fuzz buying new sets all the time. Z6 will without problem pass the 10 000 km mark, it shall be interesting to see how long the Dunlop’s will last.
