Default Conrod bearings

Hello guys

Last year I bought this 1990 CBR 1000F for a nice price and I thought I had a great deal. Well, bike is great, but during this winter I took it to service for some repairing (changing camchain, checking the cylinder head etc.). The mechanic took the engine apart and he found a piston with broken tail (I hope the term is correct) and also a conrod almost stuck (conrod bearings damaged). I want to order the conrod bearings but I found out they are colour coded (brown, green, yellow). I assume these are different thickness (first repairing, 2nd...). But I don't know the exact sizes of the conrod bearings and which one to choose amonng.
If I order the Haynes manual from UK it will take about 10 days to reach me, then other 10 days to receive the parts. That's a lot, as all other things in my bike are fixed and I'm dying to ride this beauty. So can you please teach me what are those colour codes exact meaning?.

Thank you all in advance

The bad news is... It seems you need the Crankshaft out to get the right bearing colour for your motor. You need to get the Crankpin O.D. Code (A or B) and the Connecting Rod I.D. Code (1 or 2). Goto Chapter 10 Page 21 of the Service Manual to get the Colour Code.

Alternatively, if you still have the old bearing from the Conrod, the colour code is written on the side of that.

I am looking at the old bearing but all I can see written on it is this:

F-780 NDC
MS 2080 H

About the NDC part I'm not very sure, here's a drawing of the way it looks like:

Maybe it's not the original one.

Thank you Ghost1Rider for the answer, I think I'll go to the mechanic to find out the codes. I don't have any service manual yet.

The bandwidth is limited so please dont post this link on any other forums.

Cheers

If you can get it without a mechanic or spending cash then all the better for you. I will have another look at the Manual also.

My understanding is that the bearing in this case is just a metal band - and not the type of bearing we think of most of the time with little ball bearings.

You need to cut off a short length of a special wax type stuff where the bearing goes, then rebuild the halves of the rod. Undo it, and measure the change in shape of the wax - telling you waht you need for a bearing.

Never done it... sorry

It is just a metal band, in 2 crescent halves. Problem is, they have 3 different types to suit Crank and Con combinations.

Thank you all guys for the replies. Who could have thought the colour code is on the thin side of the bearing

So it's green. Here is the picture from the service manual, in case somebody else has the same problem.

If the conrod bearing is almost stuck it is quite possible that also the crank is worn in that area. If crankimperfections are veryminor, they can be polished and removed by very fine grinding paper, so the new bearing has a chance to survive. In case the bearing damage is more prominent, the crank must be grinded for OD bearings.

Also, keep a closeeye on the used oil when changing later, and do it fairly often to begin with. In case there are metal flings in the oil, a conrod failure is near and that could be very dangerous if happens at high speed. Except the possibility for locking things up, the reartyre can be sprayed with oilif the engine fails.

Now that would be one hell of a Rollercoaster. I had my chain jump and lock into the sprocket when I first started riding. VFR400 of all bikes
