CBR1000F vs CBR1000RR new
I would like some opinions on the difference in the CBR1000F vs the CBR1000RR (new). So, let me know your opinion, please.
I went to the local Honda shop (Big Valley Honda, in Reno) and sat on the new RR. The seating position feels great to me, so comfort is not an issue (I do have a TL1000S Suzuki so the RR is comfortable in comparison). It seems the new bikes have some things going for them, but are they all that much better or is it marketing??? I am not a canyon ripper by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to step it up a click or two once-in-a-while. I would really like an opinion on the mid-range power difference. I like to "grip it and rip it" once-in-a-while so mid-range is where I get my grins. Out here in the desert, you can top out the bike without a problem, so top speed is less exciting without someone chasing you (less cops than there are roads). I keep my TL1000S because of the great mid-range power and low end torque. I also makes my eyes vibrate, which feels kind of good!
I looked back at some threads and there was a similar question asked, but it was on newer sports bikes in general, all kinds. I am interested in only the RR as compared to the F model.
Since I am not worried about depreciation of the new bike (heck its only money), don't worry about that part of the equation.
The old girl runs fine, is cheap to insure, is comfortable, gets good mileage, has new stuff all over her (tires, chain, sprockets, seat covering, brakes, rotors, rebuilt carbs, water and vacuum hoses, oil & filter, radiator cap & t-stat, zero gravity windshield, old man riding her, etc), but she seems to be slower than I like in the mid-range. Of course, I came from riding cruisers for a long time and I am not use to "ringing her neck" type of riding style. I try my mid-range punch from about 3,000 rpm and she just looks back and me and seems lifeless.....
Suggestions and "actual" riding comparisons would be helpful. Thanks....

Never rode a 1000F so I can't make that comparison. However, the new 1kRR will out pull the TL easy and obliterates the old Superhawk (Honda's 2 banger sporty).
The thing with the TL is that seat of the pants feels like you are a torque monster and approaching 200mph every time you hit the throttle. The 1kRR is a more refined beast and is deceptively quick in the mid-range.
The TL will out wheelie the 1kRR any time any where if you're into that sort of thing.

Drop the front sprocket by 1 tooth and increase the rear by two..............................
chain will be OK for length............
Your 1000F will have great midrange accelleration.
The new JoeNevada missile
Never mind the bloody crotch rockets - I wouldn't buy one.................not that I wouldn't love an RR for trackdays, I'd wipe myself out within a week on the road. Longhauls over 200 miles kill my arms and back - tried my buddy's 08.
Oh, and a Hurricane's midrange comes in around 5500RPM Joe - at 3000 she will be lifeless.

Tl & rr & f
Stretcher, good to know that the mid-range of an RR will out pull the TL (great input). I rode the Superhawk and decided the TL was more fun. Sounds like the RR kind of combines the F & TL in one for me. That is good to know or am I stretching that statement?
Shadow, I now have something to look forward to when the weather breaks out here. I am going to try the F in the 5,500 - 6,500 rpm range, in traffic, then give it some goose for zipping in/out of cars (breaks up the colesteral packed in my veins by giving me a heart rush in traffic!).
When a bike's acceleration is flat in traffic, it gives me the *******..... I like that immediate smash mouth type acceleration that the TL kind of gives. My buddy has a Suzuki M109R that gets up a books in the mid-range. He also has a Hayabusa that he wants me to try.
Big Valley Honda wants me to take a test ride on the new RR, but I want to hear a little more from the people who have ridden them and know about them before jumping on and maybe having my F & TL garaged for a while (sell them? Not for a long time, just add to the iron horse stables is what we do in Nevada)....
P.S. Stretcher, I found out about the TL being easy to wheelie on accident. I took off trying to out jump a Corvette and wheelied 100 feet or so before I could set her down. The vet? Smoked!!!! I am not comfortable on one wheel.... The TL is a monster wheelie machine at that....

Dude, you got it right on. My old bike was a Busa ... with boost ... 13# of boost to be exact. Talk about mid range -- that son-of-a-bitch would wheelie in 4th @140mph. And not talking bout slipping the clutch ... nooooo ... power wheelie in a freaking instant! But I will add that the pucker factor is a 9.99 and the intention to wheelie at 140mph was 0%.
I kinda like Shadow's idea if you're happy with the 1000F for the most part. Gearing down a bit will certainly make things interesting. If top end is not the ultimate rush then re-gear that bee-yatch! Honestly, unless you got your eyes glued to the speedo then 170mph is no different than 190mph. As they say, getting there is the fun part

Changing the sprockets
Since the chain is only about 400 miles old, this would be a good time to change those sprockets. The sprockets are new, but the guy before me put them on (Big Valley Honda did the work for him). I could just wear out the chain then change the sprockets. Thanks, I am not worried about speeds over 130 mph or so. I want the mid-range power....
P.S. A Busa would be a death trap for me. I like to see what the final tick is at the top end every once-in-a-while!!!
P.S.S. Stretcher, you and Shadow convinced me to change the sprockets. I'm on it this next month! I want to blow the TL1000s away and look like Classic before his "cop" hair cut!!!

So yu wanna look like my bad hair day blow job, before the cop style hair cut ...yu bugger .. easy !! just go for a burn with no helmet and that's fixed , without changing gearing.. LOL
If you don't tend to go boy racing much .. I would not bother with a gearing change... Like Pete said , these old girls need at least 5000 rpm up before the sparks start flying .. I cant imagine the need for more pulling power if you have the revs up rewady to go Joe....
I , the same Gregg built a Turbo 1000 Kwaka and I think that too much mid range can kill real easy LOL

5000 up
Steve, I am a little bugger aren't I..... The weather has broke here in the desert (finally), so I will be out testing your 5,000 on up riding method. I rode long stroke V-Twins for the last 15 years and the multis feel a little nervous riding them above 3 grand. I guess I am just going to have to get out there and get used to the buzzy feeling of higher rev riding. Next week is going to be in the mid 70s, so I will be busy - riding.
Next year when you cut your hair (once a year hair cut), ship it to me so I can glue it to my helmet and look like a Wild Aussie in the Wind!!!

Use some fixing gel and glue it on up the middle of your lid - you can then have an Aussie Mohican !!
When you get the bike to about 5500, you'll feel the famous Hurricane accelleration, Joe - it'll pin your ears back and bring a BIG smile to your face. Mine comes in a bit later, around 5700-6000, but the grin factor is huge - long stroke V twins ? Blah ! - boring !!

Long Stroke V-Twins
Will do Shadow. Long stroke V-Twins are out. I sold them all and don't plan on getting any more of them. Now I do like that Triumph Rocket III, but it seems a little heavy.
Riding with an Aussie Mohican hair doo on my helmet just might attract some desert rhino thingy in heat!!! I'll give it a try....
