Default CBR1000f-j Wheelie Machine????

Hi Folks

Bit of a odd query I suppose, but after 11 years of riding a Suzuki GSX1400, a machine with little inclination to wheelie due to long wheelbase and plenty of weight, my 1000f-j feels a totally different machine.

On my own, it's not too bad, the front end does start to feel a little light under acceleration, (I tend to roll away in first and change up to second before winding it on), but with the missus on the back she feels very light on the front end under power.

Is it just me or are these old girls a bit of a wheelie beast??

Cheers, Steve

I have a 93 model. Even when I was 1 tooth down on the front sprocket, she had no desire to lift the front end. It may have hopped a couple of times when I speed shifted, but thats about it.

I kinda like that, because my other bike was hard to keep the front wheel down with 1 tooth less on the front. It really got old having to be so careful on the throttle, especially riding 2 up. Went back to stock gearing on that bike as well

They can go up with weight on the rear - mine with 3 bags loaded
can easily be bounced up on the rear - hard on the throttle - dump it - then back on
as hard as you can - she'll come right up and nice and orderly too

Always good for a few laffs

Mine has standard gearing and is more inclined to just smoke the back tyre under accelleration, but will come up if you REALLY provoke it.
The weight distribution is quite good and heavier in front than some other bikes I've owned.
Check your gearing Steve, maybe you're down 1 tooth in front ?

Thanks Guys, maybe it's just me, I'l have to experiment a bit, (minus the wife on the back), thanks Shadow, she is on standard gearing I've just replaced the chain and sprockets.

It's probably down to the very different nature of the bike when compared to my previous machine the GSX1400.

Cheers, Steve

Other than an old Triumph TT500 (even the best companies make mistakes...), I've never had a bike LESS likely to wheelie. Which, in the responsible and rational part of me, I appreciate.

The other part of me (which makes up about 98%, by the way) longs to buy a GT Hawk and wheelie into the sunset...

i have a 96 cbr1000f with yoshi pipes, k&n air filter, and in first gear if i go to about 7k, then let off and got wide open, it will pull the front end straight up with only me on it, no weight in the rear.
