CBR1000F eats front tires?
Not to hijack the thread but Sprock can you tell us the difference between the 180 and 150 rears. Do you like one better than the other. I feel like my 87 turns in really fast and don't want to lose it on the fatter tire.
The timing on this thread is spot on. I am taking my 93 to the dealer tomorrow morning to have every thing checked. I bought Dunlop Q2s for mine the front 2years ago the rear replaced last year as I picked up a shard and didn't trust a patch. About 7k on the front. I have had the stem bearings and front wheelbearings replaced last year. Regular balance weights on both wheels.
The tire is cupped, down to the wear marks in the side threads. when I had the bearings replaced I mentioned to the dealer that on some road surfaces the front end shook if I let the bars go. On others it doesnt do that.He (dealer) told me because of the geometry all of them do that. One last thing when I replace the rear and the chain/sprockets in order for the rear to be inline with the bike, the marks dont match. The bike tracks well, no problems at warp speed and stops with no pull.
This is the first time I have read these bikes are hard on tires so it may be just that with nothing mechanically wrong.
One thing for sure, I am having the front tire replaced as I noticed the cords showing in the treads of the tire!!
. Last thing I need is it to come apart.
Last I have a question, I dont want to replace both,(read that cant afford to) should I seriously think about a different tire on the front - mis-match them?

Mine hasn't ever eaten a front tyre quicker than usual. I run the PR 2's now but used to run the Bridgys and never had any issues with either brand. I put a Conti Road Attack on it once and it developed a violent bar shake at around 80 km/h. I got rid of it and never went near them again. I find Continental a really crappy tyre and wouldn't recommend them to anyone but that's just me.
The worst front tire to cup on me was the original Dunlop that came from the factory. The bike had the shakes as stated above. Ever since I put a 180 on the back the front doesn't shake and the tire doesn't cup. I do get down to the wear bars on the sides of the front when I decide to replace it at about 8-9K miles.
All Continentals or just the specific one you had an issue with Bordo ?

Shanko Ravens are a great tire for ware. Michelin roadtec Z6 are better for sportier riding but don't last as long as the Ravens. The Ravens are heavy carcass tires and I believe they have a duel rubber compound that is mixed so you get grip and longevity at the same time, unlike the ones with harder rubber in the center and soft on the sides.
I don't see any up side of the 190. Other bikes with 190 have a different size tire up front than yours.
To be fair Sprock I am talking about the one I had trouble with. A friend put one on his Busa and it presented the same problem. Might have been a bad batch, I don't know. I'm just not willing to try them again.
Fair enough Bordo - maybe a bad batch of that model - who knows.
Tell ya this tho the Conti' Motions are okay and have good reviews for a budget tire.
Reason I got a set was because of size with the narrower rims on an 87 Hurricane
- they have done just fine and I've had it well up over the ton - but - I do use Dyna
Beads in all bikes now - so who knows maybe that is masking the imbalance you
speak of.

My '90 did too, about 5k before the front was triangle shaped/cupped and the rear was worn thin., before I picked up a leak in the rear so I replaced them both.
I switched to the PR3's and after 3k they look great.
Mind you Missouri roads are notorious for eating up tires even auto tires run 40% low on mileage, it's the dam surface.. its like razor blades on tires.

Finally got my troubles sorted out on this. What we found is that I had put a Dunlop Qualifier on the front with a Dunlop Q2 on the rear. They are not the same thing. The other mistake with the front tire was that when I bought it(at a discount dealer in town) it was already old. Didnt use what I knew in checking the MGF date on the DOT number. So I had a mismatch along with a tire that should have been pitched. That ended up with a severely cupped front, thread showing in the tread of the tire and miserable handling in the twisties.
Replaced with matching tires re balance and tightening of my new chain put on this spring, shop alignment, checked the bearing tightness( new bearings last year) tightened them up a bit and oh my goodness !!
The bike handles very well, I am faster and more confident in the twisties.
Dont know if I can say this, but I'd like to give a shout out to Aurora Honda for their effort on getting this sorted out. They've always treated me well. Kind of reminds me of the old Motorcycle shops, you can go in, they will talk bikes with you, get hard to find parts, listen to what you are saying and then handle it.Then test ride the bike to be sure and make recommendations.
Didn't think it was possible, but right now I am loving my bike even more...
A funny story on the cord showing. My guy said he have never heard of one coming apart. My response was well, whos going to be around to tell it if that happens:-)
