Removed carbs and air box to do a clean and re-jet and found that each carb boot on the air box is cracked and it looks like it has been "glued" before. Any suggestions of how to fix.

 

When you say glued, do you mean black stuff? If so, I think that's normal. Hard to believe but others have that black goo on the air box side, I do.

 

Ya you are right, it's the black stuff. Where can I get more to fill in the cracks?

 

It's black silicon in a tube.
Local hardware store should have it.
Use dish washing liquid on your fingers to smooth it

 

Shadow, thanks for the info. I am assuming that this black silicon can handle the heat that gets in and around the air box. The reason it cracked is just old age??

Silicone can handle the heat fine. Hell, if you use a black rtv silicone sealant, it's good to like 450F! That's what I would use. It's available at just about any gas station store, wal-mart, etc. Permatex, usually.
And yeah...it's probably just cracking from age. It usually separates from between the box and boots.

 

Just another method for a slighty different problem with the carbs boots.

One of my other bikes suffered a split carb boot, I found using electrical Self amalgamating (rubber type) tape is an awesome fix.

Heat resistant, fuel resistant, last for ages(years in fact) and most of all, seals any air leaks.

I also like the idea of using self-amalgamating tape !

My own airbox has black goo around the airbox tubes - probably permatex or something similar - takes the heat fine whatever it is.

 

Pretty sure this new handyman in a can might work too LOL
