Default Braided Lines

Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered before but I was wondering who here has braided lines on their cane ? The brakes on mine are really ordininary and I think the stock OEM rubber lines being 20 years old may have something to do with it. I have emailed John Stamnas regarding Goodridge lines and a price. I am having new brake pads installed this week but I think the whole system needs a kit put through it and some braided lines to get it back to where it should be. I'd appreciate any info on how you find them and the cost. Thanks.

On a non combined brake bike i found them great.

Get a three line kit ( individual lines from master cylinder to each front caliper ) - they are easier to bleed correctly.

Make sure all pistons and slides in the calipers are free.

Use DOT5.1 brake fluid ( Do not use DOT5 silicone fluid )

Change to a "HH" rated brake pad up front

These guys do 'em here and they may be available in Oz , they're not cheap but they look the bizniz

Maybe worth doing a Google search on 'HEL Performance' or 'Venhill' you may find a local supplier.

Hi Guys,
I've been trying to reply but get some message about my reply not being long enuf ??

Anyway thanks Hawkwind for the links mate.

I will certainly be checking hose out. The HEL clutch line here alone runs $75 AUD.

Even with the exchange rate it will still run cheaper to buy them in the UK.

I've bought heaps of stuff for my Blackbird from the UK over the years and never had any dramas.

Yeah they aren't cheap but you get what you pay for and that is certainly the case with bike parts & accessories I've found.

Thanks again.

I think most guys will agree - great for the front, NOT so great for the rear - the rear brake is inclined to lock up, and s/s lines make it worse..............
There are some good deals on e-Bay uk ATM.
Nice find Hawk - it's on my list of things to do..........

I just put Spiegler's on the front. They are working great, almost too good. Huge difference from stock. i have new pads too. I now need to put more viscous oil in the forks since the front end is diving so much. Current fork oil is new from Honda.
email me if you have Qs. damurjian@aol.com

just add 10ml to each fork and it'll stiffen up.

Thumbs up

I been searching treads today and this is the one that I needed. I am going to swap out all my lines and replace them with the ss lines and wanted to know what kind of fluid. Reading this thread I am going with the DOT 5.1 thanks for the info guy. Oh buy the way I wish I had read before I bought the rear line.

Yeah, I guess the dot 5.1 is the newest chit, right? Like some space age stuff or something...lol. Is it much more expensive?

Yeah, the rear line shouldn't be necessary. You want it to not have the power to lock, really.... if possible. SS looks nice, though...
