Pete you did hit the nail on the head mate ..
the hammer only works on the faster "tic tic tic tic tic" ......but as it is a "click click " , you need the special Honda " tic " removal tool
... used in conjunction with a very very cold can will do it ..

The one that worked for me when I ended up stuck at work (same problem,stuck starter) was try to free it for a hour, phone the recovery truck,wait for a couple more hours, then when he turns up and asks what the trouble is?
You show him and guess what?......................(Large amount of swearing followed)
