Put a one eight O on my 1990 myself as well and all it took was 2 beers and a bit
of swearing ! The Power Pure has a more taller convex profile imo than some tires ....
leans over pretty good or as good as the Metzler 170 on there before.......
In fact it's a bit twitchy out commuting to work on the highway (85 +).... but great on
the turns & twisties.

Good morning as indiana i have made the mode to bigger whell, i have a 180 and just love it, depending on the brand of tire that you put the bike can become quicker steerring.
Right now i have Avon storm 2 ultra front and rear and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE them , just to tell you we went in the twisties i was with an sv650 ( ok low horsepower but handling quite quite well)and a zx9r and vfr800 , well i was trailing at first like i was with my bt021 , but then i felt confident and th tre gripped , well i passed them and led and funniest part is they could not follow me except for the zx9r, at the coffee break they ask me what happened.
The avon are very well adapted to our bikes, my two cents

I was running a 160 rear & 120 front on my '87 (original 3.5" & 2.5" rims) for about ten years till I sold it.
No problems & handled fine.
This bike was used mainly through the 4 mountain ranges near Cairns so it got a good work out handling wise.

as most of you know im new to the cbr1000f but mine is a 87 with the extended swing and i have a shinko 180/55zr17 on the rear and i have no problem gunning down into the twisties and it has a bigger foot print which helps put the extra power my bike has to the ground i love it i am a little worried about my front tire its a metzeler 110/80yb17 it looks like a cruser style front tire "straight line tred" is this a good front tire for these bikes or should i invest in a more sport style tire. what do yall all run?

The Metzeler is fine on the front, I'd be more worried about the Shinko's grip.
The bike will steer a little quicker with the 170 on but they are hard to find here and very expensive.
My wife's old CB750 (140 rear tyre) will turn much faster than my 1000F around the suburbs - a joy to ride, but not at the speeds the 1000F gets to !

Hi mate I converted my 88 from the small wheel to the later wheel about 6 mths ago it took about an hour and transformed the bike. It handles better and the tyre chioces are much better. Because the modern performance bike run on the same size. I now have sticky superbike tyres on mine and although they wont give me the long miles I get what I want which is handling round the twisties. I now have found a supplier for cheap track dat tyres so I dont care about the mileage.
Would I do the swap again, answer is to right I would.

Since the fender doesn't fit with the 180 all of the "supports" are gone.
Here how I did the brake. I added the braket to fit the 91-93 brake.
Also you may see in the botten pic that there is added support welded along the swing arm.

Look on the forum about tyres - plenty to read. Shinko are cheaper than any of the other makes, and not well thought of here(in SA). Some guys have them and they work OK I guess, but FWIW the Bridgestone/Pirelli/Metzeler/Michelin/Avon have better reputations. But hey, if it works for you, good enough !
(I don't believe the Shinko story about "being a pure race tyre" is accurate though.)
