Default Best Oil??

Any advise on oil to use ? I'm wondering if the extra $$ for synthetic oil would be worth it. I'm currently running 10-40 castrol oil. AMS oil is $14.00 per litre, andajug of Castrol is only $4.00. I'm wonderingif anyone else has any recommendations.

This topic has been brought up many times, and you're likely to get some "smart remarks" from a few of the members. But here's my take. There is a guy who did some research and wrote some great articles on Oil, filters and the like. Tonight, take the time to read them and I think you'll be able to make an informed decision on what you think is best. That way you're not taking advice from someone that likes a particular oil because it's in a pretty bottle, or it matches the color of their bike .

In case you're wondering, I use the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 in all my vehicles.

I use Castrol Actevo 10w 40 semi synthetic, found it's good and it needs to be at $12 per litre, so an oil change costs $45 for 3,8 litres in SA, but IDD is right, oil is a matter of personal choice, for the most part.......

I use Rotella in my whip. 16$ for four quarts. Next oil change I'm picking up a Mobil 1 filter.

Currently, I'm using AMSoil becauseI was talked into buying two cases. All three bikes run very well. I believe you can safely go farther/longer between oil changes with a good synthetic as long as you follow the OEM specs. I have always used SAE 10w-40 rated at SG or higher per OEM specs. Avoid automotive oil containing anti-friction additives usually marked as "Energy saving" as you need the friction in a wet clutch engine.

YMMV

I have an 86/87 & have tried several oils. In all bikes keep well clear of car oil. It just isn't made for wet clutches & gearboxes. The older bikes like mine need a good oil but I personally stay away from fully synthetic. I feel the bikes were not built for oils that fine. My bike has seen some miles & have had good results from motul 5100. It's 10w50 vegetable oil with added esters. Not cheap but comes with "free" filter. To me it's worth it.
At the end of the day it's personal choice.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone ) I think I'll just go with the Castrol oil as synthetic is pricy for what I need. Intersting point about the clutch though. I guess the most important thing is to change the oil at the 5,000km mark religiously.

Waht is the advantage of the Mobil oil filters sixhundred? I heard Fram filters are a good choice.
