Bad vibrations

RE: Bad vibrations
Hey Shadow. I have been reading the threads on this and as I have never adjusted the balancer - I am a little cautious. Any cons for adjusting while engine is on? Any pitfalls to look out for? Manual states to add thread lock to bolt - is this necessary - does it work loose?

RE: Bad vibrations
Problem with vibrations solved. the fault was running on two different tires. The front tire was a michelin pilot road, while the rear being a Michelin pilot road 2. I know it shouldn't be a problem with same make and type, but it was. The minute i went for a pilot road 2 in the front, the vibes dissapered. Very odd, but there it is.

I'm with Shadow on this one. The mechanic acually checked your balance before removing your old tire?I hope he re-checked it after you had the new one installed. It sounds like you perhaps had a bad front tire. I've never heard of a mis-matched tire causing a vibration. Wheel balance would be a 99% chance of being the culpurt, I would think, but I'm only human.
End of the day, your vibration is gone, thats the main thing.........

RE: Bad vibrations
Morning,
Mine has just started exhibiting a vibration, enough to cause me to have to pull over. Couldnt see anything loose etc, so carried on, vibration gone! Excellent I thought. Every now and again vibration kicks back in, it is from my right caliper. It seems the disc is slightly warped and the caliper is moving against the disc on the sliding pin system! You can physically see the caliper moving about on every turn of the front wheel! I have ordered new pads to see if that will help, but am kind of resigned to the skimming/new disc route unfortunately.

RE: Bad vibrations
Hi,
Its weird, having stripped the front caliper hangers, it seems tha the fault lies not with the disc but with the receptacle that the caliper pin slides in. It seems to kind of oscillate, and there are score marks down the inner shaft. I have used some silicon grease to see if that cures it, and ordered some pads. A mate works at an engineering shop with a lathe, so will try that before getting new discs.
