Default bad stator, regulators, or alternator? Help please!!!!!

Hello there guys... Been having a little issue lately. this will be the second regulator I have to replace on my 87 hurricane and the fourth overall to date on the bike.any ideas why my regulators keep going bad? I want to get to the root of the problem so I don't spend unnessesary time and money...

They'll keep burnin' up if repeatedly used with old weak batteries.

I had a similar problem - I think you'll find that one of your stator/alternator coils is burnt - it's not obvious when you strip it down, but if you check the resistances you'll probably find they are off spec.
I tries to have mine rewound but it wasn't successful.
Fitted a replacement stator/alternator cover and problem solved.

As Sprock says, a weak battery is not an ideal situation, and causes the reg/rec to have to work harder also. I fitted a new battery and new reg/rec and 6 months later the problem was back, so fitted replacement stator 3 years ago. Fine since.

Awesome feedback on this issue...will be checking that out...I have to find the book for my bike 'cause is somewhere in the boxes from the move so I could get the correct readings for that stator...Thanks sprock and shadow...cheers!!!!!!

The wiring is different so as a direct replacement - I think NOT

thanks for the info guys...right now she's getting work done on the fairings to get them ready for paint... I chose the cooper looking color of the mitsubishi lancer, and similar to the jeep wrangler cooper, with the original black stripes from a 90 up model 1k...Got an extended(about 4") , original, swingarm a buddy had that he had forgoten was there and a set of early 900rr wheels that will be painted black...As soon as I finish her up will try to post pics...Thanks!!!!!!!! Much love from the carribbean and ride safe!!!!

Here's an update... Still working on the fairings... Bought a new motobatt gel battery for her... Found a used in good condition alternator cover with the winding inside for 25 bucks but from a 91 model...would it fit my 87? Honda had said that the engines had remained unchanged throughout their run so it should fit???????
