bad stator, regulators, or alternator? Help please!!!!!
Hello there guys... Been having a little issue lately. this will be the second regulator I have to replace on my 87 hurricane and the fourth overall to date on the bike.any ideas why my regulators keep going bad? I want to get to the root of the problem so I don't spend unnessesary time and money...

I had a similar problem - I think you'll find that one of your stator/alternator coils is burnt - it's not obvious when you strip it down, but if you check the resistances you'll probably find they are off spec.
I tries to have mine rewound but it wasn't successful.
Fitted a replacement stator/alternator cover and problem solved.
As Sprock says, a weak battery is not an ideal situation, and causes the reg/rec to have to work harder also. I fitted a new battery and new reg/rec and 6 months later the problem was back, so fitted replacement stator 3 years ago. Fine since.

Here's an update... Still working on the fairings... Bought a new motobatt gel battery for her... Found a used in good condition alternator cover with the winding inside for 25 bucks but from a 91 model...would it fit my 87? Honda had said that the engines had remained unchanged throughout their run so it should fit???????
