Average life expectancy of a clutch
#51
I must have been snoozin. I thought this whole thing started out with him going to try changing the oil after the initial criticism.
And from what I understand it worked.
There was initial criticism about running Delo oil, but it should be fine to run.
So if nothing changed, what's the explanation for the improvement? Now it's a little more of a mystery.
New oil probably helped, but he'll be needing a new clutch down the road a bit.
Maybe the previous owner was running high moly car oil? Maybe not changing it enough? Who knows.

AH HAH .......The Mystery.........accounted for I think
Apparently a few weeks back when I had the forks done .....guess what ?
they changed the oil ........I had just put rotella in there prior......**** !
So ...they ain't giving me a straight answer but I'm suspecting some EC
chit went in (energy conserving) or auto slippery .........it's the only explanation, and the kid they had doing the work is no longer there ......go figure
Told the owner if the clutch wigs out on me he's doing it on the house.
he agreed........lot of LE guys I work with have their bikes with him
so ........I got some traction with this fricken revelation ......Geezus
These guys usually do great work .........but this has me wondering now
Me thinks I'll find a new shop to frequent

Unless I missed it, sprock initially put in new oil (Delo) to see if it would help his clutch to slip a less because his old oil needed changed anyway.
And from what I understand it worked.
There was initial criticism about running Delo oil, but it should be fine to run.
Only thing that changed was that he put fresh oil in her (once... fresh Delo400). Now the clutch doesn't seem to be slipping.

well ......I mostly do all my own stuff
Yeah well normally I do my own stuff but I needed the forks done
x2 quick time and I didn't have the time to do it myself........anyway
Dylan this shop shares space with a small auto shop ......... s'why I think they put
auto oil in it.....that.....or this clutch is soon to be gonzo'd.....we'll see
Anyway all seems well for now .......but I'm switching that clutch out when
I lay her up at the end of November when the snow and ice BS starts.
That way I'm good to go in March.
Anyone know anything about the Barnett Kevlar clutch Kits out on Ebay
comes with springs, plates and discs ??

My buddy lost a front wheel one time. No joke. He sued a shop and their insurance had to pay for his bike, hospital bills, etc.
Lucky he even lived to sue them really .... that's bloody awful...
I like to know that I have tightened everything up ...one of my pet fears is to suffer extreme mechanical failure at high speed ...!!!
