Caster oil was used years ago & I posed the question as to wheather it's still used & it didn't gum the rings.
You are correct though. Use whatever oil you're comfortable with. They all work but they all have different characteristics & the trick is to choose what suits you, your machine & your budget.

hmmm.... dunno ? but I can fix it so that all the oils mentioned here are "sticky" with one mouse click if you like ...LOL ..
Please gawd no...

Dave A., I agree with you, and Shell makes a ton of good oils.
(However, I don't like quaker state for some reason and I don't even know why. I just won't use it. Irrational reason, I'm sure )

Anyway, anybody want a Shell Rotella T Ballcap?
I've got a couple extras....

It was definitely used, but it definitely did gum up rings. I'm not saying that it wasn't usable, and it didn't gum up every motor, ever...just saying that it was an issue. There was a time when it was the best alternative....but this is one of the main reasons it's not used any more. It had pros and cons, and nowadays we have better oils with more/better pros, and without the cons.

Actually, it's not entirely accurate that it's not used any more. You still see it in 2 stroke motors once in a while.

Leave it to Mr. Steve to cut directly to the core of the issue.
