Alternator tensioner

RE: Alternator tensioner
Just behind the starter is a small case with a 8mm nut. When you take this off you'll see a 14mm nut at the end of the shaft, once this is undone then the shaft is free to move but the damper will stay with the chain. This can be removed after. With the engine crank cases split lean the engine forward onto it's front, this way you will have better access to the alternator.

RE: Alternator tensioner
I may have possibly found the problem. I removed the three alternator retaining bolts & the alternator pulled out in my hand. In other words the nut on the end of the shaft had come undone. Unfortunately there is damage to the threads but with a bit of dressing the nut now fits back on. Next trick is to check for any other damage along the way. Cheers & thanks for all the help!!
