What is the best way to compress the rear caliper when swapping out rear pads? This is for a 1995 CBR 1000F w/ linked brakes

biggest blade screwdriver that you have. Pry in there, then leverage until the pistons compress back.

 

When i changed my brake pads out i used the old pad against the caliper and a clamp to SLOWLEY compress the piston back in, no problems at all.

But my bike is NOT the linked brake type, so i am not sure if will work the same, it should, that's why i say SLOWLEY

or, expandable pliers.

 

Be sure to clean the exposed part of the piston completely before you push them back in. The only thing that retracts the brake pistons is the tiny ridge on the seals. It doesn't take much to overwhelm that, and make the brakes drag.

 

I got the new pads on, they work excellent. I also did a hydraulic system flush (brake and clutch) and while I was bleeding the rear caliper, I put tubes on both bleeder-screws and loosened them. I was then able to easily compress the caliper to install the new pads =)
