RE: 88 starter clutch question
Alright, I got the bike home today. Looks great, and I can't wait to ride it.
I pushed it down the street, the engine does turn. It's been sitting for atleast a few weeks and the carburators have no gas in them so it wouldn't light off.
I tore the clutch out of it and the clutch basket, there's nothing back there. I looked at where the starter goes into the engine up near the alternator, so I pulled the alternator off.
The chain that is attached to the alternator and goes down inside the engine is broke, the starter clutch is fine.
That PDF file worked fine on my mac up at school, but here at home it won't open on any of the PC's.
Anybody know where that chain goes and how bad it is?
Edit: I re-downloaded the PDF and it's working fine

RE: 88 starter clutch question
Hello Honkn,
We are somewhat local, I do frequent the tourist towns on the Del.
Once you get running, maybe we can get some 1000Fs together for a meet?
I have a crazy sked, but, let me know if you need some muscle for the re-construction...
BTW, its great to see a stock exhaust. Hard to find these days..

RE: 88 starter clutch question
I guess I should have read more before the reply. I did get an email from the original owner about the bike, but I see your pictures, so you obviously got it. When you get it together I can send some pics of mine, I just made a fender eliminator for mine and took the turnsignals off man does it look good now.

RE: 88 starter clutch question
I was already looking at moving the licence plate and turn signals and ditching the flap fender. It looks so out of place. I was the 2nd bidder and paid my high bid despite the next lowest being 1575. Whatever, it's sweet and I can't wait to ride it up to state college for it's first ride. I'm planning of firing it up without the mufflers, on the way back together just to hear it. I like quieter pipes though, my exhaust is in really good shape too. The bolts weren't even rusty when I took it apart. The bike is like a time capsule.
