Default 88 1000 Hurricane cam chain adjustment

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. I have a 1988 Honda CBR1000F Hurricane that I picked up last nite that runs but has an engine noise that sounds like cam chain noise. I have ordered a shop manual but in the meantime, I was hoping I could get some input on how the cam chain is adjusted. The 80-83 CB900 and 1000 inline 4 air cooled engine cam chain has both front and rear cam chain adjustors with locking nuts. Since the 88 1000 Hurricane is a very similar DOHC in-line 4 cylinder, is it adjusted the same way? Many thanks, Ed

Thanks all for the input. I talked to Ape Racing Parts just now and they tell me that Ape does not make a manual cct for an 88 1000 hurricane.

So now it seems my options are to go back with an OEM if I cannot find a manual adjustor.

Is there a 1987 or 1988 CBR1000F owner out there who has installed a manual CCT? If so, what brand? If I am getting bad info, please let me know. thanks, Ed

As far as I'm aware nobody has done a conversion to a manual CCT.

Fit a new camchain with a master link (DID make one) or you have to split the engine to fit the Honda one
Replace the cam tensioner with the one from the 93 bike or later.
This is your only real answer.
Will take about 6 hours, or you can remove the engine and take 3 weeks

I just built my own manual adjuster for my 87 hurricane 1000 and am in the testing mode now.I have ridden 200 km's so far and all is good. May be a kit comming this winter.

No problem, judging by the number of tensioner inquiries there is a need. Rattles aren't acceptable.
